I am not Comfortable

"But God doesn't call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through"
             ---Frances Chan

Frances Chan is not the first person to say something of this sort. But he recently wrote about it in length in his book Crazy Love.   And it was timely that I read this book this past year as we were gearing up for this huge life change.

Packing my family up and moving to DC is not comfortable.

Moving from this suburban city to an urban city is not comfortable.

Not having a house to live in yet is not comfortable.

Possibly not having a parking spot or yard is not comfortable.

Starting all over trying to make brand new friends is not comfortable.

While we are going to be closer to some family, moving so far from other family is not comfortable.

Having no idea what we are going to do in regards to schooling is not  comfortable.

But God didn’t call us to be comfortable. He has not promised a comfortable life.  He has called us to lay down our lives, to store up our treasures in heaven and not on earth, to live by faith, to set ourselves apart, to be a city on a Hill (or THE Hill).

So we are packing our family up and moving to DC.
                And it is not comfortable….
And while we are being stretched, challenged, pulled in every direction.  Saying Goodbye to so many, and selling so much…
We couldn’t be happier…. because we have never been more confident that this is exactly what God wants us to.

Here’s to not being comfortable!
Here I am Lord, Send me!
“Christians like to play it safe. We want to put ourselves in situations where we are safe ‘even if there is no God.’ But if we truly desire to please God, we cannot live that way. We have to do things that cost us during our life on earth but will be more than worth it in eternity.”
